At the most recent City Council meeting, we were proud to recognize Mayor David Smith as Asheboro’s 2024 Main Street Champion 🏅

Mayor David Smith has been a public servant in Asheboro for 28 years, almost 16 years as mayor and 12 years on City Council. In those roles, he has provided the leadership and vision to push the municipal organization to expand beyond the norm. David spearheaded the development of the centerpiece of Asheboro’s downtown, Bicentennial Park, which was constructed in 1999. This venue is booked year-round by a wide variety of organizations in addition to city events and serves as a true third place, increasing connections within our community. At his suggestion, in 2005, the city began a summer Sunday concert series, which expanded in 2020 to also include the Friday night Rockin’ in the Park series, attracting thousands of people downtown annually. He has also made his own personal investment in downtown by purchasing and rehabbing a building that now houses Full Moon Oyster Bar and two market rate apartments, with opportunities for other tenants. While David recognizes the importance of all the parts of our city, he particularly understands the critical role the downtown plays in the overall health of the city, exemplified in his decision making.

Thank you, Mayor Smith for your support of our city! 🌟
